This covers section 0.3 in the guide book.
This video covers separation by filtration and evaporation of mixtures.
Cambridge wants you to know how to be able to seperate a mixture of sand, salt and water.
You will need
Sand and salt
Fiter and filter funnel
Beaker
An evaporation dish.
Method.
Make a mixture of salt and sand
Record the apperance of the mixture and write it down
Fold the filter paper in the filter funnel and carefully pour the water in
Wait for the water to pass trough- record how the colour migh have changed.
Put the water in the evaporation disc and leave it for a few days
Record what is now left in the dics
If you want a faster result, you can use a heat source and a heat resistant beaker and heat up the water after the step with the funnel.
Ask yourself.. how come one part can be seperated with a physical filter and one part needs evaporation?
This will be an important part of understanding marine science ;)
