So, you have started studying Marine science.
How do you get the most out of it, and how can you be efficient with your time??
Here are a few of my clues:
Spend your time in class active.
Participate as much possible in the debates on the class and try to be active in any experiment we do. If you sit passive and perhaps have something else going on your screen, you won't remember much
Ask!
If there is ANYTHING that don't make sense, ask the teacher and then ask again. We are here to help you.
Read the book:
Cambride makes some good text books, but they only work if you read in them. Dont read them like a novel, just from cover to cover, but take your time to look at the figures, understand the tables and focus on the keywords
Make a god study habit:
Reading the entire syllabus the night before the exam is not the best way. Make a habit of reading often, but not too long. make a good study location where you can be left undisturbed, and turn off all screens.
If you have screens going at the same time, you won't be able to focus, and the time will be wasted. Trust me on this one!
Take notes:
For some people (like me) this is the best way to study. Take your own notes, and use your own words to describe what you just read, Draw, make figures, draw tiny turtles...whatever works for you, But taking notes can make a difference
Take a look at the syllabus:
The syllabus is here, and it is super specific on WHAT you need to know
Learn the command words:
In a cambridge science exam, all questions start with a command word, that describes how the question needs to be answered.
Graphs and data is an important part of the exam.
Take time to look into how Cambridge wats this done.
Do field studies:
Going to a local beach, going fishing, vising a local natural history museum og even better, a large aquarium will be fun and nice way to make the syllabus way more fun!
In Denmark, this is the place to go!
Do the lab work:
The book contains a bit of lab work. It's a good way to learn the syllabus, and try to do as much of it as you can
Use any ressources you might find usefull:
IGCSE Marine is still a new class, so there is not many free Youtube channels or other sites for it (beside mine)
but here is a few that might be usefull
Earth Rocks have some great videos
Miss Parott teaches AS/A level marine science, but many of the videos can come handy still. She i a great teacher!
Mr keene teaches biology, but also have quite a bit of marine stuff
Have fun!
Marine science is super fun... remember to have fun and enjoy it. It's not all about the exam and the grade, the process is just as important.
